Twitter: Senior UX Engineer/Creative Technologist

Project: Kite and Chargeback

The problem: Engineering was provisioning and tracking internal cloud and on-prem resources through disconnected tools and spreadsheets — nobody had a clear read on spend.

My role: Senior React engineer and UX lead, owning both the research and the product.

Process: Interviewed 20+ teams company-wide, prototyped in Figma, built a "one-stop-shop" React tool that adapted to developers, managers, and finance stakeholders alike.

Outcome: $100K+ in annual savings, plus a component library later adopted by 1,000+ engineers across other internal tools.

Began transitioning to the creative technology team which partnered with advertisers to use Twitter’s Social Graph and API’s to create engaging and deeply interactive experiences for brands, movies, and products before Twitter was acquired and became X.

The Simpsons: “Nedna"

Project: The Simpsons: Nedna

Company: Fox

Role: Front End/UX Lead

Project Details: Front end lead. Full build of HTML/CSS/JS and Flash from design comps. Designed, created and developed "yes/no" animation behavior using Flash/ActionScript and AfterEffects. Handled expectations from product and marketing teams to deliver experience after airing of season finale. Worked with Simpsons animators to propose animation in-line with Simpsons style (see video). Hooked up social sharing with Facebook and Twitter. Voting took place between seasons and captured millions of votes to in-house database.

The show runners had high ambitions for this project and met a lot of resistance from the head of engineering, who couldn’t see how it was technically possible. I asked him to give me the weekend to see if I could wire something up before we told them no. I delivered a hybrid Flash/JavaScript solution and wired up the social media voting to handle both desktop and mobile submissions.

The Simpsons: Couch Gag Contest

Project: The Simpsons: Couch Gag Contest

Company: Fox

Role: Front End/UX Lead

Project Details: Front end lead. Full build of HTML/CSS/JS from design comps.

The show runners wanted a way to make the page interactive using the remote on the television. The animators had created four different versions of the couch gag and they were looking for a way to showcase all of them. I provided a visual indicator so fans would know the remote was interactive and created the channel change “static” animation between the pieces.

Fox Television

Projects: Various Fox Television shows

Company: Fox Broadcasting

Role: Senior Front End Developer

Project Details: In addition to driving the technical execution of some of the more creative campaigns for The Simpsons, I also served as the point of communication between the show’s production team and the engineering team. I advised on the technical feasibility of ideas and often delivered proof-of-concept “what ifs” to the creative team (what if we added parallax, what if we had some easter eggs hidden on the site...) I had similar roles to some of Fox’s other iconic shows such as American Idol, Bob’s Burgers, Fringe, New Girl, Hell’s Kitchen, House, Bones, The X-Factor, So You Think You Can Dance, Terra Nova, and Glee, where I helped implement a Super Bowl recipe tie-in with the show.

I also helped implement a full redesign of the entire Fox site, implementing a white label template to make updating shows between seasons and quickly building sites for new shows, as well as helped to launch The X-Factor during the Super Bowl halftime show where we had to monitor traffic and ensure the servers could handle the surge of millions of people coming to the site. That also meant building the site to be optimized from the start.

FX Networks

Projects: FXNow and Simpsons World

Company: FX Networks

Role: Senior Front End Developer

Project Details: FXNow served as an early television streamer, allowing viewers to watch their favorite shows online. The Simpsons World was an ambitions hub for everything related to The Simpsons, offering fans the ability to stream every episode of the show since its first season.

Pepsi: Summergram

Project: Pepsi Instagram AR integration

Company: vMotiv, through The Creative Group — Creative Technologist

Role: Creative Technologist

Project Details: Streamlined AR filter production for 200M+ bottles nationwide...

Built the production workflow for converting 3D objects into Instagram AR filters, helping streamline production of hundreds of custom filters for Pepsi's national #Summergram campaign with Instagram, a launch spanning four cities and over 200 million bottles nationwide.

And Many More…

Projects/Clients: ServiceNow (Staff Software Engineer), Adidas, Teamsnap, HomeAdvisor, Esource, Backstory Magazine, DJM Capital.

Details: Applying my decades-long experience in Front End technologies to deliver rich web experiences. From basic HTML/CSS/JavaScript stand alone sites to complex web apps running on react, vue.js, Angular, and node.js and implementing technologies such as three.js, Unity, R, D3.js, and many others.

Most recently, I worked at ServiceNow where I guided UX direction for AI-assisted workflows within ServiceNow's enterprise platform. Specifics under NDA. Broadly: clear communication and workflow is necessary for a relationship between AI agents and humans. My job was to find what was working, the pain points, and solutions to reduce friction between humans and machines.

I also taught JavaScript and Front End Engineering at General Assembly.
